Carrie Underwood Talks “HIMYM” Role

Getting in some acting time, Carrie Underwood recently spilled about her stint on the set of “How I Met Your Mother.” Taking to her blog, the country singer wrote:

“I got to hang out with the whole cast, dress up like a flight attendant, play a cavewoman and had a baby pig poop on me…that’s right…jealous I’m just glad I grew up on a farm because I think I was the only one who knew how to hold and wasn’t afraid of a little piglet!” She added, “(the cast) made me feel right at home and were super patient and great with me and my lack of experience!

JLo to Guest Star on “How I Met Your Mother”

Looks like Jenny From the Block will be making a pit stop at MacLaren’s Bar. CBS announced Wednesday that Jennifer Lopez will guest star in a March episode of How I Met Your Mother.

“We’re looking forward to a week of revealing outfits and sexy dance moves the likes of which this show hasn’t seen since Regis Philbin guest starred,” series executive producer and co-creator Carter Bays says.

But don’t expect Lopez to show up in another nude cat suit anytime soon. According to a press release, she will play Anita Appleby, an outspoken self-help guru who makes it her mission to break caddish Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) of his womanizing ways. That sounds like corporate attire — think power suits and shoulder pads instead of sequined robes and Louboutins.

Lopez, who is in talks to guest star on FOX’s Glee, joins the roster of high-profile celebs to appear on HIMYM. Britney Spears and Rachel Bilson have also made cameos — and Carrie Underwood just taped an episode last week. (Source)

NPH Talks Directing “How I Met Your Mother” Episode

Actor, singer, host, magician, and now director. Neil Patrick Harris tells TV Guide Magazine about his behind-the-camera work on the January 18 installment of How I Met Your Mother. In the episode, Marshall (Jason Segel) tries to convince Lily (Alyson Hannigan) that his colleague (guest star Amanda Peet) hit on him.

Was it hard to be an actor in a scene you were directing?
It was very strange. I was doing a scene in the bar with Jason and Josh Radnor [who plays Ted], and I’m thinking, “Great take. Love that. Oh, we should speed that part up a little bit.” Then I had to quickly think, “Wait, it’s my line.” I was very happy to not be in many scenes.

How did the cast respond?
They were so nice and were really on their game, both professionally and personally. They had my back, so it was a lovely week.

Did you have past experience that helped prepare you for this?
I directed some theater, but not on a giant scale. I was an observing director on NYPD Blue and Murder, She Wrote.

I’ve done my share of watching, but this was the first opportunity I had to pay the money and get my DGA card.
Is directing what you really want to do?

Indeed. I think it’s a great way to spend your days. I enjoy it more than acting, quite frankly. The actor works really hard for approval of others, which is fine. I’ve done it for many years, but it’s certainly fun to be on the other side. As a director, you work on the script, preproduction, casting, the shoot, editing, testing…it’s just a much more involved process. No disrespect to acting. I love to do it, and I hope to do it forever.

Will you direct more HIMYM episodes?
I hope so. Probably not this season, but it worked out well, so maybe other shows here or there. Maybe I’ll get off my rump and write and direct a film. I love Christopher Guest. I aspire to that type of movie someday.

Really, what can’t you do in the entertainment industry?
Give me something to try to do and I’ll see what I can make of it. It’s a great business. I’m a huge fan of the process of it all.

“How I Met Your Mother” Spoiler

Ask Ausiello posted a “How I Met Your Mother” spoiler:

Question: I thought the HIMYM smoking episode was hilarious, but does Alyson Hannigan really smoke? —Joe
Ausiello:
In a word, God, no! (Okay, two words.) “The smoking episode was horrible to shoot,” says the actress. “It was a funny script, but faking all that smoking was murder on my throat and eyes. They were fake cigarettes, but it was still really gross to us non-smokers.” More appealing to Hannigan is the idea of giving Lily and Marshall a baby. “I actually wouldn’t mind being pregnant on the show at some point,” she says. “And I think these characters are getting to an age where that just starts happening naturally. But it would certainly hinder the bar scenes. Pregnant woman in the bar drinking? Not so [funny]. Then the baby would get there and we’d have to figure out what to do with it all the time. It would separate Lily and Marshall from the group too much [which] would interrupt the camaraderie, which is the cornerstone of HIMYM. So I think, in the end that is what is truly stalling the baby. But if we get enough seasons, it would have to happen eventually.”
